Spotted in the Guardian Saturday Review (26 September 1998, page 5):

[an article on Richard Gere's first exhibition of photographs, of Tibet]

"Gere's faith is clearly of a different order to the usual Californian
cocktail of psychobabbling New Age drivel.  It is difficult to watch,
say, Shirley MacLaine, without being aware of the nonsense she has
filled her head with.  John Travolta's on-screen menace is heightened by
the knowledge that, off-screen, he has been involved in a "religion" as
menacing and creepy and ludicrous as Scientology."
