Audience to the participants to different Jubelee pilgrimages
Rome, Dec. 23rd 2000 - Italy
at 11,30 this morning, The Holy Father recieved in Audience the participants to different Jubelee pilgrimages in the Paulus VI Hall, and held a speach the point n.1 of which we are here reporting.
Very Dear Brothers and Sisters!
I'm glad to warmly welcome you to this meeting that feels the spiritual atmosphere of the imminent Christmas. The great mistery of the Incarnation that we are going to celebrate with particular solemnity at the hight of the Great Jubelee, constitutes a propitious chance to renew our faith in the Son of God, born in Bethlem 2000 yrs ago. The Jubelee is near to its end. It is important that in the final part of the Jubelee itinerary each and every faithful put a more intense commitment to purify and strenghten his/her faith before the dangers and the deceits that can threaten it, in these days. Aren't there among those deceits also those aberrational forms of religious feelings that exploits the deepest needs and aspirations of the human soul, suggesting illusory and fallacious perspectives of fulfilment? Unfortunately, a number of families are touched by this sad problem, because of the involvement of some of their members, particularly the children, often more weak and open to this sort of risk.
For long time the Church has been looking in worry to this problem, that touches the heart of the life of christians. The spreading of "cults" must constitute to the believers an incentive to deepen their conviction of faith. Only a stronger testimony of the christian values and a firm renewal of the pastoral commitment could be an effective answer to this challenge. Only a profound faith, consistently lived, constitutes an effective antidote against such dangerous drifts of the feeleing and the religious practice.
