From sunny@skytoday.com Thu Dec 18 12:59:59 2003 From: Robert Vaughn Young Subject: Hubbard's policy of blackmail/extortion (RVY) Date: 1998/04/18 Newsgroups: alt.religion.scientology,alt.clearing.technology I will give you some quotes from a key Hubbard policy to show why these Scientology Dept 20 accounts and shills respond as they do: HCOB 5 Nov 67 "Critics of Scientology." What you will read is not "scripture" to them. It is - as it is with every fanatic - a self-evident "fact." If you challenge it, it will mean you are a criminal. It is important to note that when Hubbard is talking about "criticism," there is nothing about "truth": or "falsity." That never appears. Criticism of Scientology or Hubbard is an attack. Truth or validity of the criticism has nothing to do with it because criticism of Scientology is unacceptable. Scientology decides what is true, not you. (Note how many times the "wgert" account and the others use variations of this.) Let's start with Hubbard's view of the value of Scientology. Hubbard writes in this HCOB, "We break no laws. We do more good in any ten minutes of this planet's time than the combined effort of all social ministries on Earth to better mankind." Just to make sure we all get it, let's replay that again: "We break no laws. We do more good in any ten minutes of this planet's time than the combined effort of all social ministries on Earth to better mankind." Now that we've all been set straight that even back in 1967 Scientology was doing more in 10 minutes than THE COMBINED EFFORT OF ALL SOCIAL MINISTRIES ON EARTH, let's hear from Hubbard what it means to be a "critic" of him or Scientology. Given the value of Scientology, who would try to stop such value? Can one guess? Here's Hubbard in HCOB 5 Nov 67: "Now, get this as a technical _fact_, not a hopeful idea. Every time we have investigated the background of a critic of Scientology, we have found _crimes_ for which that person or group could be imprisoned under existing law. We do _not_ find critics of Scientology who do not have criminal pasts. Over and over we prove this." Again, there is nothing about TRUTH here or "valid criticism" or "constructive criticsm." Criticism is criticism and criticism comes from criminals and that is a FACT, Hubbard insists. Criminals, Hubbard says, hate anyone who helps and since Scientology does more in 10 minutes than "the combined effort of all social ministries on Earth," then - it follows, right? - that criminals would hate Scientology the most, which explains why Scientology is so roundly criticized. (The circular logic on this is really quite amazing to watch.) Don't worry, Hubbard says. Criminals are only 20 percent of the race and Scientologists are on the majority side. Criminals are afraid "But we have more general influence and votes" and "we are winning." [As a footnote, this was 1967 when Scientology was under severe attack in Australia. Hubbard created the Guardian's Office in 1966 to deal with it and the growing assault in the world media. This HCOB was but one policy he wrote to deal with the matter that would come to form the basis of the Fair Game Doctrine which is really nothing more than how to deal with "critics" or "suppressives," which were to Hubbard what Jews were to Hitler - the reason for his problems and the vermin that must be destroyed to save the world. Hubbard called it "clearing the planet" and his words on how to "quietly dispose" of the opposition have been posted to this news group.] Let's go on in the same HCOB. Here is Scientology in the raw: "We are slowly and carefully teaching the unholy a lesson. It is as follows: 'We are not a law enforcement agency. BUT we will become interested in the crimes of people who seek to stop us. If you oppose Scientology we promptly look up - and will find and expose - your crimes. If you leave us alone we will leave you alone.' "It's very simple. Even a fool can grasp that. "And don't underrate our ability to carry it out." Oh yes, we definitely grasp it! Scientology's Dept 20 does it every day here. The tactic is really nothing more than that of the blackmailer and the extortionist. They all operate alike. They claim to have information that they feel you do not want known and they will shut up and go away if you do exactly what they say. For them/Hubbard, the idea is to cause the person/group to "shudder into silence," to be silenced by being terrorized. It does not matter if the target doesn't care about the purported information or if the information is even true or false. It is the attempt to unduly influence the person through threat that is grounds for charges of blackmail/extortion. The difference is that this blackmail/extortion policy is the "religious scripture" of a "religion" that is 501(c)3 tax exempt. They get to do this with tax exempt dollars. Here is how he closes this directive: "If you, the criticized, are savage enough[!} and insistent enough in your demand for the crime, you'll get the text, meter or no meter. [Referring to the lie-detector-like device they use for interrogations.] "Never discuss _Scientology_ with the critic. Just discuss his or her crimes, known and unknown. And act completely confident that those crimes exist. Because they do. "Life will suddenly become much more interesting -- and you'll become much less suppressed!" --L.
